Wednesday afternoon at Indian Creek Elementary School, the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County presented the family of Ashton Morgan with a check for $19,001.26 – all of the proceeds raised from Ashton’s Field of Dreams on July 23 – to assist with expenses associated with the treatment of Ashton’s cancer.
On Saturday, July 23, hundreds of members of the Coffee County community gathered at the home of Terry and Tamara Morgan to celebrate the opening of Ashton’s Field of Dreams, a baseball field built by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and local citizens. The field was a gift to Ashton, 5, who suffers from medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer from which he has suffered for the last three years.
The last few months have not been good for the Morgan family. The cancer has tripled in size since April and Ashton has been a very sick young man. But for a few hours in late July, Ashton was just a kid enjoying a baseball game with several hundred of his closest friends. Ashton’s story has touched people throughout the area, and the Morgan family has drawn tremendous comfort from the outpouring of love and support the community has shown them.
“We just want to say thank you, but thank you doesn’t quite seem enough. Words can’t express how much we appreciate everyone who had any part in this. There are no words to describe the pain and heartache that all this is a part of. Knowing people are supporting you and praying for you and just loving you helps you. It really does help knowing you’re not alone,” said Tamara Morgan.
Tamara also said that Ashton has a meeting with his doctors Friday morning. “We’re just praying for a miracle,” she stated
