Featured 'Trojan War' will close school on Friday, Dec. 8

For the first time in school history, the Coffee Trojans football team is playing for a state championship. As a result, schools will be closed on Friday, according to information posted on the Coffee County School System’s Facebook page.

Coffee will face the Lee County Trojans at 8 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Unofficially dubbed the Trojan War, the two teams are region rivals and have already played each other once this season. With the Region 1-6A title on the line, Lee County won 23-7 in Leesburg.

Now Coffee is looking for a little revenge and it could come on the biggest stage in Georgia high school football. Tickets for the game are $22 and will be sold Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the board of education’s central office and the Coffee High School athletic office. Thursday, tickets will be available at both locations from 8:30 a.m. to noon. (Tickets are also available today – Monday – until 5 p.m. at the athletic office and the central office). If you are driving your own vehicle, you must purchase a parking pass at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s web site. The Red and Silver lots have been designated as lots for Coffee fans, who should enter the arena through Gate 2. The link to the parking passes can be found here: www.mercedesbenzstadium.com/parking-and-transportation

If you would like to travel to the game by bus, the school system will offer transportation to the game for $8. Buses will leave the Jardine Stadium parking lot at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8. The buses will return home following the game. A game ticket and a bus ticket can be purchased at the board of education office for $30 only at the board of education central office.

Anyone under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. School age children are allowed on the buses; however, the buses cannot accommodate infant or child car seats. There will be no alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs allowed on the buses.

Also, the stadium has a clear bag policy; all bags, including women’s handbags, must be clear with all items visible.
