The Douglas Fire Department is teaming up with NFPA during Fire Prevention Week, October 6-12, 2019, to spread awareness of testing smoke alarms. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Not All Heroes Wear Capes: Plan and Practice Your Escape.” The purpose of the theme is to focus on the importance of planning and practicing fire escape in the home, business, and school. Each day during Fire Prevention Week, the City of Douglas Fire Department Facebook page will feature our local heroes in the Douglas Fire Department. Often times, these brave men and women fight fires and save citizens without a moment of hesitation without recognition. Fire education programs will be offered for all ages through fire prevention presentations in the schools, daycares, and other places of business. To schedule a visit from our City of Douglas Fire Department or to learn more about their outreach programs, please contact Shirley Ross, (912) 384-4815. Customers can register at City Hall for a drawing that will be held on October 25, 2019 for FREE smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Through these educational, family-oriented activities, residents can learn more about the importance of smoke alarms and fire safety, as well as the power of fire prevention and education.
