During the month of October, the City of Douglas will be offering several promotions for customers to kick off Douglas’s 125th birthday celebrations.  Throughout the month, activities will be designed to educate and show appreciation for Douglas customers.

Customer Appreciation Month will be held the entire month of October.  Customers are encouraged to register for a $100 credit on their utility account that three lucky customers will win at the end of the month.  Customers are encouraged to complete and submit their Census forms.  If customers bring in proof of completion of their Census form, they will also be registered to win one of three $100 credits to apply to their utility account.  For more information about the City of Douglas Customer Service Division please dial 311 or call 384-3302.

The Douglas Utilities Department will be promoting Natural Gas Month throughout the month of October.  In preparation for the cooler months, customers can call and schedule a FREE pilot lighting – this is a savings of $10.  For more information about Natural Gas month, please call (912) 389-3427.  Public Power week will be held Oct. 4 – 10, 2020.  During this week, customers are encouraged to “thank a lineman” and to become more educated about the utility services that are provided by Douglas Utilities.  To end the celebration of Public Power Week and to start the celebrations leading up to of Douglas’ 125th birthday, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for the new Douglas Utilities buildings.  For more information about the Douglas Utilities Department, please call (912) 389-3445.

The Douglas Fire Department is teaming up with NFPA during Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10, 2020, to spread awareness of testing smoke alarms.  This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.” The purpose of the theme is to focus on the importance of preventing kitchen fires by cooking safely in homes.  Kitchen fires are the number 1 cause home fires and home fire injuries.  Fire education programs will be offered for all ages through fire prevention presentations in the schools, daycares, and other places of business. City of Douglas Utility customers can register at City Hall for a drawing that will be held on October 30, 2020 for FREE smoke detectors and carbon dioxide detectors. Through these educational, family-oriented activities, residents can learn more about the importance of smoke alarms and fire safety, as well as the power of fire prevention and education.  For more information about fire prevention week or outreach programs, call (912) 384-4815.
