SGSC 7-0 after win over Thomas University JV

The South Georgia State College Hawks remain undefeated to open the 2024-2025 season after a 92-57 win Monday night against the Thomas University (TU) Night Hawks junior varsity squad.

The Hawks (7-0) were led by three players in double figures. Justin McCarter had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Amren Hoard also finished with a double-double of his own (15 points, 11 rebounds). Jarvis Weaver was the third Hawk in double figures with 11 points.


SGSC overcame a slow start to lead 37-24 at halftime and outscored TU 55-33 in the final 20 minutes. The Hawks shot 49.3 percent for the game while holding the Night Hawks to 32.8 percent shooting. SGSC made 82.4 percent of its free throws and forced a total of 39 turnovers.

SGSC will hit the road for three games before returning to Waycross Dec. 13-14 for the 8th annual B-Mac’s Classic. The Hawks will play Indian River State College Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. and will face Eastern Florida State College Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. Eastern Florida is ranked eighth in the most recent NJCAA basketball poll.

The SGSC athletic department has announced a change in ticket pricing for home basketball games. All regular season home games are now $7 with children five and under admitted free.
