Officials with the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) reported Monday that a chance encounter with an intoxicated man at Wal-Mart led to the discovery of numerous street and pharmaceutical drugs packaged for distribution.

Authorities said on Friday, April 10, the Douglas Police Department was dispatched to a forgery complaint at Wal-Mart. While on location, officers encountered an intoxicated person inside the store, and arrested the individual, indentified as Dickie McLendon.

McLendon was found to be in possession methamphetamine (packaged for sale), Valium, Lorcet, Methadone (all packaged for sale), Ecstasy, and marijuana.

Oofficers notified the DCDU, who subsequently McLendon with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (Lorcet, Methadone, and Valium), possession of a controlled substance (Ecstasy) and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

In regards to the forgery incident, a forged prescription was passed to the pharmacy department, but the suspect fled the store before law enforcement arrived, and the case remains under investigation.

In an unrelated incident also on April 10, Coffee HEAT units initiated a traffic stop at Days Inn in Douglas on a vehicle occupied by Kathy Ladell Ashworth and Kinte Jawan Green. During the traffic stop, officers located a quantity of cocaine and contacted the DCDU. Detectives arrested both Ashworth and Green for possession of cocaine.

On Saturday, April 11, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated a traffic stop on Brooks Ave in Douglas on a vehicle occupied by Kenyotta Jasmilla Carswell and Chelstey Jeanette Moore. During the traffic stop, officers located a quantity of marijuana, cocaine, and Tramadol tablets. DCDU detectives arrested Carswell and Moore for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a controlled substance (Tramadol).
