Jeff Davis officers arrest 34 on drug, weapons charges

On Thursday, June 24, 2021, The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office, the Jeff Davis County Drug Unit, the Georgia State Patrol and the Hazlehurst Police Department set up checkpoints to inspect motor vehicle operators and make sure everyone is driving safely.  During these inspections, operators were in violation of several traffic infractions from driving under the influence of alcohol charges, drug possession charges and even wanted criminals with outstanding felony warrants made an appearance and were apprehended.

In addition, the Jeff Davis County Drug Unit and the Hazlehurst Police Department continue to concentrate and crackdown on the local drug operations.  As a result of these aggressive tactics, several drug and firearms charges were made in the last quarter.  It is important to understand your drug problem, our drug unit recognizes the importance of not only seeking and arresting the street level dealers and users, but also concentrating on the major traffickers and teaming up with federal agencies to assist in these larger scale operations.

Alex Lance Peavey- of Hazlehurst, Ga; Possession of Methamphetamine.

Dillon Jeffery Burdiss- of Lake Park, Ga; Possession of a Scheduled IV Controlled Substance, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Kaleb Tristan Reynolds- of Baxley, Ga; Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Scheduled I Controlled Substance.

Tavarus Akasua Pounds- of McRae, Ga; Possession of Methamphetamine.

Clinton Harrison Lewis- of Hazlehurst, Ga; Possession of a Scheduled IV Controlled Substance.

Dontavious Marquese Leggett- of Duncan, South Carolina; Possession of a Scheduled II Controlled Substance.

Matthew Mackenzie Carter- of Hazlehurst, Ga; Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Scheduled II Controlled Substance.

William Elton Hall- of Denton, Ga; Possession of a Scheduled II Controlled Substance, Possession of a Scheduled IV Controlled Substance.
