Mr. Carl S. Smith, Sr., age 77 of Douglas, passed away Sunday morning, March 4, 2018, at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Smith was born December 9, 1940, to the late Paul Leroy Smith and the late Ruth Ward-Smith. He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Judy C. Smith; and a brother, John Roy Smith, Sr.

Mr. Smith, a native of Telfair County, Georgia was retired from the Coffee County Board of Education as a custodian at Indian Creek Elementary School. He had also served in the Georgia National Guard. 

Mr. Smith was a member of Salem New Congregation Church in the Bickley Community.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lois Turner Smith of Douglas, GA; children: Nena Highsmith of Broxton, GA, Carl Stanley Smith, Jr. of Milan, GA, Harold Smith of Dayville, Connecticut
Carla Smith of Douglas, GA; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service was held on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home where Rev. Jerry Martin and Rev. John Thomas officiated. The interment followed in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Telfair County. 

Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
