George Hester, age 96, of Douglas, passed away on Thursday June 27, 2019 at Vista Park Health and Rehabilitation. Mr. Hester was born on November 12, 1922 in Alachua, Florida, the son of the late Ezekiel Hester and Pearl Harrison Hester.

Mr. Hester was a self-employed fiberglass boat builder, a local farmer, a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was the oldest member (over 50 years) of Jowers Chapel Holiness Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, church secretary, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ophelia Nettles Hester; second wife, Rosa Amerson Hester; daughter-in-law, Teresa Hester; two brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Musgrove (husband Raymond) of Douglas and Sharon Wright (husband Etheridge) of Douglas; son, George Raymond Hester, Jr. of Douglas; five grandchildren, Regina Spires (husband Howard), Vanese Musgrove, Shawn Hester (wife Brandi), Brandon Musgrove and Shanna Raulerson (husband Chris), all of Douglas; seven great grandchildren, Candace Daniels (husband Craig), Ryleigh Musgrove, Bailee Musgrove, Ethan Hester, Hanna Hester, Tyler Grantham and Will Raulerson; three great great grandchildren, Addalyn Davis, Bryson Daniels and Bryleigh Daniels.

Funeral services were held on Saturday June 29, 2019 at 11 am at Jowers Chapel Holiness Baptist Church with Rev. Marshall Dye and Rev. Edsel Young officiating. Interment followed at Tanner Church Cemetery with military honors presented by Fort Stewart Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Steve Adams, Stacy Adams, Michael Spikes, Tyler White, Barry Whitley and Brent Burnham. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Jowers Chapel. 

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
