Brother Eugene Williams, the eldest son of the late Elder Jesse Williams, Jr., and Missionary Bernestine Fields Williams, and the grandson of the late Deacon Amos Fields, Sr., and the late Mrs. Jannie McCray Fields, was born on February 8, 1943. He attended Carver High and Elementary School, Douglas, Georgia, and later joined the U. S. Army. He was a two-time Vietnam veteran. Eugene also worked in various job capacities (welding, food processing, railroad, agriculture, and farming).

Eugene was a member of Saints Temple COGIC during his early years of life. In later years, he became a member of Sword & Shield Ministries under the leadership of his younger brother, Elder Jesse Williams, III. After the demise of his brother/pastor, Eugene’s memory of being brought up in the church helped him to realize the importance to continue to be in church and the necessity of having a church home and a pastor; therefore, he chose Bethlehem Temple COGIC for his new church home on January 1, 2019, during Watch Night Service.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Willie Frank Williams, Lawrence “Bud” Merritt, Warren James Williams, Sr., Elder Jesse Williams, III, and one sister: Nelerine (Hessie/Sister) Merritt.

Eugene leaves a devoted sister, Gwendolyn Annette Anthony (Rev. James Anthony, Jr.), Douglas, to mourn and cherish his precious memories. He leaves two sons: Richard Eugene Williams, and Jesse James Williams; three grandchildren: Ciara, Sage, and Xavier; one sister-in -law, Dorothy Williams, Douglas; a very special friend, Mattie M. Zackery, Clinton, MD; (nephews) Warren James Williams, Jr. (Mary) and Henry L. Williams, Douglas, GA; Jerome Johnson, Broxton, GA; Calvin Smith, Douglas, GA, a very special nephew, and personal barber, Emanuel Williams (Sharon), Douglas, GA; Irvin Collins (Miriam), Kaisers Lautern, Germany; Javon Collins (Jodi), Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Mack Anthony (Chanelle), Annapolis, MD; Clyde Anthony (Alma), Atlanta, GA; (nieces) Ora Lee “Pam” Daniels, Dawson, GA; Martha Nell Gifford (Terry), Douglas, GA; Ardemise Williams, Jessica Williams, and Jennifer Williams, Douglas, GA, and a host of great-nieces, greatnephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Harrell’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
