Hoke Smith Rawlins, age 82 of Ambrose, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Rawlins was born on December 29, 1931, in Broxton, Georgia, to the late Jessie James Rawlins and Rhoda Carver Rawlins.

Survivors include: his wife, Beverly Ann Goover Rawlins of Ambrose, two sons, Lee (Tammy) Rawlins of Ambrose and Scott (Jean) Rawlins of Ambrose, sister-in-law, Ruth Rawlins of Douglas, seven grandchildren, Heather McCloud, Shelby Rawlins, Nichole Robinson, David Robinson, Brian Powell, Jessica Marsh, and Jason Heath, two great grandchildren, Chase McCloud and Faith McKinney Rawlins, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Rawlins, Robert Rawlins, and Jesse Rawlins and three sisters, Eva Kate MeLean, Willie Lewis, Rachael Burden.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Deberry Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Merritt and Rev. Austin Medders officiating. Interment will follow at Deberry Baptist Church Cemetery. Music is furnished for the service by Congregation “Holy Holy Holy”, “I’ll Fly Away”, “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”, and “God Be With Us Till We Meet Again” with Peggy Ott playing the piano. Active Pallbearers will be Buddy Boatwright, Joel Rawlins, Dan Moody, Paul Wagner, Alan Smith, Austin Medders, and Goldman Harper.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
