With the starting of a new school year in Coffee County come many new learning opportunities for students. The Eastside Elementary Pre-K classes recently were treated to a special visit from Satilla Regional Library Director of Children’s Program Miss Julie. Miss Julie brought several new books to share with the children about starting a new school year, as well as two puppet friends who taught them new finger plays and a song about school. She shared one of her favorite books growing up when she started school that was written by early childhood specialist Fred Rogers, the long-time host of Mr. Rogers’s Neighborhood.

Thank you Miss Julie for taking time out of your busy schedule to come read new and seasonal books to our Pre-K students each month. We look forward to hearing the stories, chanting new finger plays, and learning new songs Miss Julie brings to share. In coordination with Georgia’s Bright From the Start Pre-K Program yearlong focus, Miss Julie will also be bringing classical fairy tales and nursery rhymes to share as well each month. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful children’s library within our community and personnel who enjoy participating in our community schools. We encourage everyone to take your child and visit the local library.

Shown in the photo are students in Beverly Barbaree’s class listening to the story, The Little Red Hen, read by Miss Julie. Miss Julie discussed with the children the importance of helping others and working hard to accomplish a task.
