On Friday morning, Oct. 3, the Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit arrested Sheldon Leonard Pace on a probation warrant for sale of cocaine following the search of a residence on S. Daughtry Avenue in Douglas.
Friday afternoon, DCDU detectives and K-9 officers were patrolling Old Pearson Highway near the county line when they became involved in a high speed pursuit with a vehicle occupied by Terry Britt, Jr. and Justin Ralph Jewell. As the pursuit entered into Atkinson County, DCDU was assisted by Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office deputies; officers apprehended Britt and Jewell on Clarence Royals Road at Sunnyside Church Road.
A search of the vehicle revealed a small quantity of methamphetamine and over $1900 cash. A brief investigation revealed that Britt and Jewell were attempting to sell methamphetamine to others when they came into contact with DCDU. Britt stated to detectives he swallowed a quantity of methamphetamine during the pursuit, although detectives speculate the pair most likely tossed the illegal drugs from the fleeing vehicle during the pursuit.
Britt was arrested for fleeing/attempting to elude law enforcement officers and criminal attempt to sell methamphetamine. Jewell was arrested for criminal attempt to sell methamphetamine. Jewell was also discovered to be a wanted fugitive for a probation violation involving an unrelated burglary conviction.
Following this incident, DCDU and ACSO deputies searched a residence in the community of Sunnyside Church Road outside of Kirkland. ACSO deputies arrested five persons for a variety of drug offenses, to include possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.
