Dr. Morris Leis, School Superintendent, June Munford, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Kathy Cole, RN, School Nurse Manager, and Telemedicine Director, and Amy Beach, LPN and Telemedicine Coordinator, all attended the 4th annual School-Based TeleHealth Clinic Summit on November 6 at the Tift Area YMCA.

The event was hosted by Georgia Partnership for TeleHealth, Southeastern TeleHealth Resource Center, and Tift Regional Medical Center. Telemedicine is the use of telecommunications and information technologies to connect patients and doctors regardless of their physical location.

Dr. Leis and Kathy Cole gave a presentation on the 10 reasons why school-based telehealth centers make sense. They answered numerous questions about developing and running a school-based telehealth clinic. Attendees came from as far away as Zambia.

All 12 Coffee County schools are equipped with a telemedicine unit giving students, faculty, and staff access to primary and specialty care without having to leave their campus.

For more information or to enroll a student, contact a school nurse or visit the school website at www.coffee.k12.ga.us where you will find both English and Spanish forms under the Telehealth tab.
