The City of Douglas, Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce, and the Coffee County Commission are proud to announce the Grand Marshal for the 51st Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. Douglas industry, Southwire, will be the Grand Marshal for the parade, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Coffee County Courthouse on December 6.
“Southwire was chosen because of their many community outreach and generous donations to local charities,” says City Manager Terrell Jacobs.
In Douglas, Southwire provides over 230 jobs and is active in supporting many local organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Coffee County Region, Boy Scouts, CMo’s Kids, Hog Hunters for Hope, Sadies House, Think Pink, Relay for Life, Toys for Tots, Kayla Day, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, South Georgia State College, Coffee High School STEM and STEM internship programs, and many others.
Many of their employees help support these organizations with their time, effort and money. Southwire proudly sponsors its Project Gift “Back to School” event each year where, along with community partners including Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, Douglas Fire, Douglas Police, and Covenant Christian Church, kids get school supplies and services to prepare them for the school year.
Registration for the Christmas parade will continue through Friday, December 5. The theme is “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” On Saturday, December 6, festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. when the Annual Festival of Lights Parade will light up Peterson Avenue at and make its way from the courthouse to the Coffee Career Academy.
Registration forms and rules can be picked up at the Public Information Office located at 211 S. Gaskin Avenue.
