According to a call received by Coffee 911 on Saturday night just after the Christmas parade ended, a large fight allegedly broke out at Tiger Village I, the men’s residence hall on the South Georgia State College campus. Apparently, an SGSC police officer called and requested assistance from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office with the altercation. In the 911 call, which was posted in its entirety on the Coffee County Georgia Police Scanner Facebook page, a CCSO officer and a 911 operator can be heard discussing what was happening on campus.
According to the call, a large group of people began fighting outside the residence halls. Allegedly, weapons, including pipes and sticks, were involved. As officers arrived, the crowd dispersed and headed east across Peterson Avenue to the area around McDonald’s and Taco Bell. There, a report came in that shots had been fired in the vicinity. Witnesses spoke to officers and reportedly identified the individual(s) who fired the shots.
At this time, it is unknown if anyone was injured or if any arrests have been made. South Georgia State College has surveillance cameras located extensively throughout campus, including in and around the residence halls. DouglasNow.com will update this story as more information is made available.
