Ira Harper, age 96, of Douglas, GA passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Harper was born on November 12, 1918, in Ambrose, GA to the late Pearlie Harper and Lunie Vickers Harper.

Survivors include: his wife, Maxie Metts Harper of Douglas, GA; three daughters, Peggy (Allen) Jernigan of Douglas, GA, Kathryn “Kay” Griffin of Albany, GA, and Judy (George) Kight of Ambrose, GA; three sisters, Evie Spivey of Douglas, GA, Arthur Mae McMillan of Ozierfield, GA and Daphene Fussell of Ambrose, GA; six grandchildren, Allen Jernigan, Jr., Michael Jernigan, Loy Addison, Wesley Griffin, Abby Kight, and Paul Griffin; eleven great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Rusty Kight, son-in-law, Wendell “Butch” Griffin, two sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Union Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Walt Deloach officiating. Eulogy by Allen Jernigan, Jr. Reading of 23rd Psalm by Loy Addison. Music is furnished for the service by Ali and Vada Vickers “How Great Thou Art” and Congregation “Amazing Grace” with Ricky Smith playing the piano. Active Pallbearers are: Wesley Griffin, Johnny Johnson, Hugh Smith, Garrett Griffin, Allen Jernigan, Jr., Michael Jernigan, Jeffery Harper, and Duston Griffin. Honorary Pallbearers are: Donnie Smith, Dan Fussell, Wesley Vickers, Norman Fussell, Aubrey Batten, Hue Fussell, Ralph McMillan, Jerry Harper, Marty Meeks, Charlie Meeks, Jimmy C. Spivey, Stanley Spivey, Stevie Fussell, Ricky Harper, Pat Cannon, Terry Harper, Jack Bray, Welbur Carver, Jerry Lee Barnswell, Carl Hicks, Jurell “Wimp” Brockington, Gene Wade, and Dr. Conrad Harper.

Interment will follow at Mt. Union Church Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
