Mr. John M. “J. M.” Ely, Jr. ,age 81, of Douglas passed away early Tuesday morning at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, GA following a short illness. Mr. Ely was born August 18, 1933 to the late John M. Ely, Sr and the late Jessie Mae Tapley Ely.

Survivors include: His Wife: Clara Graham Ely of Douglas, GA; 1 Daughter: Marsha Ely (Buster) Bailey of Waynesville, GA; 2 Sons: Carlos M. (Diane) Ely of Douglas, GA and Jeffrey A. (Cindy) Ely of Cumming, GA; 2 Brothers: J. L. (Janice) Ely of Fitzgerald, GA, Merl “Roy” Ely of Waycross, GA; 1 Sister: Mrs. Louise Hayes of Calahan, FL; 8 Grandchildren: Dena Miller, Daron Bailey, Amanda Hayes, Lindsay Ray, Carla Reaves, Jason Ely, Jonathan Ely, and Brooke Ely. 11 Great Grandchildren. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends and Other Relatives.

Funeral Services will be Friday, December 19, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Carver Baptist Church with the interment to follow in the Douglas City Cemetery. Mr. Ely will be placed in the church at 10:30 on Friday to lie in state until the funeral hour. The Family will begin receiving friends Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Ricketson Funeral Home. In Lieu of Flowers, it is requested that Contributions be made to Gideon’s International.

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
