Malklean “Mac” Byrd Atkinson, age 83, of Broxton, GA passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Atkinson was born on July 5, 1931 in Broxton, GA to the late Robert Elmo Byrd and Phoebe Deen Byrd.

Survivors include: her husband, Carl Atkinson of Broxton, GA; three sons, Steve (Lola) Atkinson, David (Angie) Atkinson both of Broxton, GA, and Jimmy (Tracie) Atkinson of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughter, Gayle (John) Ball of Lexington, SC; sister, Cathy (Jack) Powell of Dawson, GA; eight grandchildren, Clay Collier, Pia C. Morris, Kristin Atkinson, Tiffany Fletcher, Logan Atkinson, Alana Atkinson, Leiana Atkinson, and Jessie Atkinson; eight great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Margie Atkinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Broxton Baptist Church with Rev. Freddie Gardner officiating.

Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Byrd Church Cemetery. Music is furnished for the service by Sam Roberts “Praise The Lord” with Willifred Thompson playing the organ. Active Pallbearers are: John Harry Dockery, Johnny Johnson, George Fletcher, Al Hobby, Sam Roberts, Sr., and Logan Atkinson. Honorary Pallbearers are: Sunday School Class (Sam Roberts), Francis Holly, Ruby Johnson, and Clay Collier.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
