Following a recent article on DouglasNow.com focusing on sex offenders in Coffee County, a second fugitive accused of absconding has been captured.
Last week, officers with the Douglas Police Department initiated a traffic stop on 26-year-old Michael Tyrone Jordan on North Madison Ave. at the intersection of East Ward St. Jordan intially gave officers a false name but, upon further investigation, his identity was discovered. He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Coffee County Jail.
Jordan was convicted of statutory rape in 2007 and has since failed to comply with the requirements of his sex offender status, including regularly making local authorities aware his residential address. He has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
Jordan’s arrest was the second made on a wanted Coffee County sex offender last week. In a separate incident, 22-year-old Brandon Lee Holton was jailed following a traffic stop. Holton was convicted of statutory rape in 2012.
There are currently 92 sex offenders registered in Coffee County. With Jordan’s arrest, authorities say the whereabouts of all of them are known and each is in compliance with the terms of their sex offender registration requirements.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office maintains a current website database where citizens can see all sex offenders registered locally. It also provides a search option that provides addresses for each one.
