Coffee County Sheriff Doyle Wooten would like to reach out to the public and offer some advice on buying from Craigslist after the horrific situation involving the Runions who were killed during a Craigslist meet to buy a vehicle in Telfair County.
Sheriff Wooten states it is not a good idea to meet in private locations.
“We would like to make sure these deadly interactions do not happen again,” he says.
Sheriff Wooten is offering an alternative option to meeting anyone on your own.
The Coffee County Law Enforcement Center’s parking lot is available to the public to make transactions involving sales on Craigslist or any other media that requires you to meet someone to make such trade.
“As a service to our citizens, we will be glad to check the items you may be purchasing to make sure they are not fake or stolen,” Wooten says.
Sheriff Wooten states that by telling the person or persons you may be purchasing items from that you want to meet at some law enforcement center, it could ward off possible criminal activity.
“We believe that every sheriff in this state should offer this to their community to keep their citizens safe,” the sheriff states.
