William Hugh Park, Sr., age 92, of West Green, Georgia passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Hospice House in Waycross, GA. He was born September 24, 1922, in Washington County, Georgia, to the late Willie Morris and Carrie Cochran Park.
He was a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient. As a faithful member of West Green Baptist Church, he was known for his love for the Lord and his enjoyment of Sunday School and family night suppers. He retired after thirty years of service as a soil conservation engineer, and the remainder of his years he spent doing what he loved – farming. He will be remembered for his skill to cultivate a garden that produced an abundance of delicious produce, and his generosity to share the bountiful crop with others. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thalia June (Rowell) Park, two brothers, Allen Park, and Willie Park.
Survivors include two sons, Tony Park, of Tallahassee, FL, Bill Park (Melissa), of Tifton, GA; two daughters, Margaret Fairley (Jim), of Blackshear, GA, Amy Moye (Scott) of Waycross, GA; nine grandchildren, Michael Park (Sara Beth), of Quincy, FL, Darron Moncus, of Byron, GA, David Moncus of Tallahassee, FL, Phillip Park (Stacy), of Acworth, GA, Jason Park (Sierra), of Eastman, GA, Jonathan Fairley, of Savannah, GA, Meg Wood (Will) of Hazlehurst, GA, Mallory and Molly Moye of Waycross, GA; five great grandchildren, Will Park and Maggie Park of Acworth, GA, Katy Carnicle (George) of Jacksonville, FL, Trey and Maddie Moncus of Byron, GA; one great-great-grandchild, Jasper Carnicle of Jacksonville, FL; four sisters, Lila Fletcher of Douglas, GA, Ila Austin (S.G.) Of Denton, GA, Louise Holton, of Lake Wales, FL, and Chloe Courson of West Green, GA; four sisters-in-law Audrey Smith, Douglas, GA, Elaine Rowell, Jacksonville, FL, Juawan Park, Douglas, GA, Jo Rowell, Moneta, VA; numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015, at West Green Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
