John L. Hastings, Sr., age 82, of Douglas, GA passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Hastings was born on October 30, 1932, in Nottoway, VA to the late James Maston Hastings and Ruth May Major Hastings.

Survivors include: his wife, Hilda Hastings of Douglas, GA; four daughters, Serena (Mathew) Burke of Broxton, GA, Amy (Scott) Smith of Raleigh, NC, Patsy Hastings of Virginia, and Teresa Hastings of Virginia; four sons, John (Teresa) Cleland of Douglas, GA; Bradley (Jessica) Hastings of Douglas, GA, John L. Hastings, Jr., of Virginia, and Jimmy Hastings of Virginia; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Kathlene (Raymond) Atkins of Virginia, and Ruby Simmons of Virginia; brother, Kenneth M. (Sandy) Hastings of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Earl Hastings.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. John Dobbins officiating. Interment will follow at Stokesville Baptist Church Cemetery. Music is furnished for the service by Ferrell Burke “In The Garden”, John Glosson “How Great Thou Art”, and Congregation “Because He Lives” with Randy Braswell playing the organ. Active Pallbearers are: Drew Burke, Elliott Burke, Marshall Cleland, Ben Chapman, Stephen Chapman, David Thrift, Randall Peterson, and Austin Burke.

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
