A Douglas man faces two charges of child molestation after admitting to authorities he had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old female who was reported missing from Florida after recently running away from a group home for victims of human trafficking.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office stated today that on April 15, a detective conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the intersection of New Forest Hwy. and Mahogany Rd.
During the investigation into the traffic stop, authorities determined that one of the three occupants of the vehicle was a 14-year-old juvenile wanted out of Polk County Fl. In late March, officials were contacted by the Polk County Fl. Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance with locating the juvenile. It was believed she was traveling with someone who had ties to Georgia, but the exact location could not be determined.
Coffee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were provided with a list of the charges she faced in Florida, along with a photo of the juvenile. During this investigation, the juvenile told detectives she was living with her guardian, Anthony Terrell Young, at 610 Lupo Lane in Douglas. It was also determined that the juvenile had run away from the Porch Light group home for juvenile victims of human trafficking and that she suffered from substance abuse and mental health issues.
Shortly after the traffic stop was made, Mr. Young arrived at the scene and, at this point, detectives determined it would be best to transport Mr. Young and the juvenile to the law enforcement center. Detective conducted an interview of Mr. Young to determine his involvement with the juvenile and, during the interview, Young allegedly admitted to having sex with her on more than one occasion.
Young was charged with two counts of child molestation and is currently being held in the Coffee County Jail.
The juvenile was also charged in Coffee County with one count of giving false name and was transported back to Florida were she will face numerous charges.
