The Douglas Police Department and other public safety agencies are working together for Public Safety Day, which will be held May 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Agencies participating include Douglas Police, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Nicholls PD, Broxton PD, City and County Fire Departments, and Coffee County EMS.

“The purpose behind the event is to allow residents to interact with members from all the agencies and look at public safety vehicles such as the HEAT cars,” says Sgt. Tim Allmond with the Douglas Police Department.  “Additionally, the child safety and restraint program will be provided by the Coffee County Health Department.  Other attendees include the Georgia Forestry Commission, Child Advocacy Center, and MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).”

At the event, kids will be able to enjoy a fun day with the men and women that help keep Douglas and Coffee safe every day for everyone.  Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras because McGruff the Crime Dog, Sparky the Fire Pup and even Smokey the Bear will be making special appearances for kids to have their photo taken with them. Hot dogs, chips, and water will be provided.
