One man allegedly involved in a shootout that occurred Tuesday afternoon is behind bars this morning on unrelated charges, though officials state they expect to be obtaining warrants soon for his involvement in the incident.
The Douglas Police Department issued the following statement:
On June 9, 2015, officers from the Douglas Police Department responded to the area of S. Gaskin Ave. and Pine St. in reference to at least two individuals shooting at each other. Officers from the Coffee County Sheriff’s (Office) and the Georgia State Patrol also responded.
On arrival, officers located 21-year-old Kavozia Sirvante Walker, who stated that he had been in his back yard when an individual known to him as “Twan” approached his residence and discharged a handgun in his direction multiple times. Walker stated that he returned fire and believed he had struck Twan at least once…Evidence located at the scene and several witness statements supported Walker’s account of the incident.
A City of Douglas investigator was posted at Coffee Regional Medical Center for the purpose of locating anyone seeking treatment for suspected gunshot wounds. Twan, now known to be 24-year-old Daniel Antwon Wilcox, arrived at Coffee Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the right arm. He was treated, released from the hospital, and later arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail on unrelated, outstanding warrants.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
The firearm used by Walker in this incident has been secured as evidence, and warrants are expected to be obtained on Wilcox for aggravated assault.
Walker was briefly detained at the scene and then released.
