The Chamber of Commerce welcomed a new business to the community Thursday, Aug. 13 with a ribbon cutting. The Mayo Clinic on Shirley Avenue is open for business and offers services in hematology and oncology. Dr. John Presutti became CEO of the Mayo Clinic in Waycross this March and has been with the Mayo Clinic since 1997. He was present at the ribbon cutting to express his excitement for the opening of the clinic, which would bring Mayo’s expertise and resources to patients in the Douglas area. Dr. Presutti also expressed his hopes that the clinic would be able to maintain a close relationship with Coffee Regional Medical Center, as they will likely be sharing patients and working together.

Dr. Presutti’s partner, Dr. Asit Jha, also spoke and praised the new facility’s resources and team. He has worked and lived in South Georgia for about eight years and has been working at the Mayo Clinic in Waycross. Dr. Asit also recognized the great opportunity that our more rural area has been given with such an advanced medical facility opening.

Mayor James Dennis also had good words for Dr. John Presutti and the Mayo Clinic, saying that had it not been for their diligence and care, a family member who had been stricken with cancer would have been gone too soon. He expressed gratitude to the clinic, staff, and the doctors who all provide such amazing care and life-saving procedures for becoming part of the Douglas and Coffee County community.

Members of the Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Mayo Clinic to Douglas and hope to see it flourish and grow, adding strength and jobs to the economy, and helping to keep those in the area healthy and happy.
