A converted school bus carrying farm workers lost control and overturned on Harvey Vickers Road going towards U.S. Highway 441 this afternoon. Several of the workers that were transported from the scene by three separate ambulances and were being treated for injuries at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Authorities on the scene said the injuries appeared to be minor. Life Flight, however, was on standby as a precaution.

Shortly after the accident, Coffee Regional Medical Center released a statement of its own. The release stated that 12 individuals were injured in the accident. However, that number was later updated to 27 injuries.

A portion of CRMC’s statement is included here: “Personnel have been called back and we are adequately staffed to efficiently manage existing patients as well as victims of the disaster as they arrive. If you have legitimate medical concerns, please present to the medical center, however, we are asking that the public please respect the victim’s privacy and allow the hospital to administer care without the added volume of visitors. We are asking for anyone with minor injuries or flu-like symptoms to please present to the walk-in-clinic. If you have concerns about a family member, come to the front lobby of the hospital where you will be directed to the Information Center.”
