The Telecommunications and Security Program on the Ben Hill-Irwin campus of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College recently received a large donation.  Connectivity Wireless, Inc. of Duluth, Georgia donated an assorted selection of cable and wireless equipment valued at $96,409.87 to the Telecommunication program.

The Telecommunications program prepares students to work in the telecommunications industry.  From broadband to wire line technologies as well as other low voltage type systems.  Students at Wiregrass are taught hands on skills like installing cable and equipment used in transmitting messages and television programming, including security systems, alarm devices, and other related components.

“Thanks to the generosity of Connectivity Wireless, students in the Telecommunication and Security program can receive hands-on training using real-world equipment,” shared Wiregrass President Dr. Tina K. Anderson.  “Upon graduation our students are able to let employers know they have the skills and experience needed to get the job done.  At Wiregrass we love partnering with businesses, this makes for stronger communities and great workforce development in action.

Students enrolled in the Telecommunications and Security Technology program can opt for an Associate of Applied Science Degree, a diploma, or a certificate in Broadband Installation Specialist, Cable Installation Specialist or Mobile Electronics Technician.

“We are excited to receive this equipment from Connectivity Wireless,” shared Ira Smith Telecommunications and Security Program Coordinator. “This is a growing program and our graduates are getting good paying jobs immediately upon graduation.  This Semester we added a new night class due to student’s needs.”
