Mrs. Elizabeth JoAn Sweat Williams, age 75, of Axson passed away Sunday morning, September 6, 2015, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Williams was born May 1, 1940 in Waycross, GA to the late Joel Lee and Dorothy Gibson Sweat. She had lived in several locations in the US before spending most of her adult life in Douglas and Axson, GA. JoAn married Dr. Jack G. She also had received her BS Degree in Education from the University of GA with some credits being attained at South Georgia College in Douglas. As an educator, she was affectionately known as” Miss JoAn” by all the first graders she taught throughout her many years in the teaching profession. She was actively involved in many community programs and she especially liked to join children or elderly ladies in making ceramic art and painting, both on canvas and pottery. She enjoyed weaving with yarn and basketry work with straw and fiber. JoAn was also an avid walker and even extended this pleasure after having to use a cane to support herself.
