During the month of October, the City of Douglas will be offering several promotions for their customers.
The week of October 4-10 will be Fire Prevention Week, Natural Gas Week, and Public Power Week. This week will be filled with activities designed to educate and show appreciation for City of Douglas customers.
The Douglas Fire Department is teaming up with the NFPA during Fire Prevention Week to spread awareness of testing smoke alarms. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm.” The purpose of the theme is to focus on the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home and business.
Fire education programs will be offered for teens, a poster contest for third grade students, and fire prevention presentations in the schools, businesses, daycares and other places of business.
Customers can register at City Hall for a drawing that will be held on Friday, October 10 for smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Tune in to 106.7 WOKA for trivia questions each day. Through these educational, family-oriented activities, residents can learn more about the importance of smoke alarms and fire safety, as well as the power of fire prevention. The Natural Gas Department will be promoting Natural Gas Month throughout the month of October. In preparation for the cooler months, customers can call and schedule free pilot lighting. For more information about Natural Gas Month, call (912) 389-3427.
