The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the City of Douglas Police Department would like to bring public awareness and educate citizens about domestic violence.

The Douglas Police Department will host a Domestic Violence Awareness Workshop that will be free to the public on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 6 p.m. at the CE Weir Center located at 307 E. Bryan Street.

The workshop will focus on the cycle of violence, identifying the signs of abuse, what to do if involved in an abusive relationship, intervention, children and domestic violence, going through the legal process, victim assistance programs, and shelters.

Several community partners will be on hand to speak to the public about services that can be offered to aid individuals involved in abusive relationships.

“The Douglas Police Department responded to 151 domestic violence related calls for service in 2014 and 111 for 2015 to date,” says Police Chief Gary Casteloes.  “We are happy to host this workshop to bring public awareness to  domestic violence.”

Community partners are being sought to help host this event.  For more information or to assist with this community awareness event, please call (912) 384-2222.
