Mr. Nelson Royal, age 91, of Douglas, passed away on Friday, October 09, 2015 at Oxton Place of Douglas following an extended illness. Mr. Nelson was born on July 18,1924 in Atkinson County, GA to the late Harlow and Rilsa McDonald Royal.
Mr. Royal spent his first 25 years as a farmer, raising corn, peanuts, cotton, tobacco, cattle, hogs and working turpentine. After that he worked with an electrical contractor wiring homes and businesses in Coffee County. In 1969 he began work for Kaiser in charge of maintenance. When Fabwell bought Kaiser in 1982 he continued to work as a valued employee of that organization until he retired. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing for recreation and relaxation.
After 69 years of a happy marriage, his wife Rhuhama Ross Royal passed away on May 22, 2014.
Survivors include one son: Larry and his wife, Debbie Royal of Villa Rica, GA. One granddaughter: Melissa Renee Marhatta and husband, Mike of Dallas, GA.; three grandchildren: Devin Nolan, Conner Nolan and Alexandra Marhatta; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM At Sims Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home Inc with the Rev. George Carroll Paulk and Rev. Mark Mercer officiating. Music provided by the congregation singing “Victory In Jesus” and “Amazing Grace” lead by Debbie Sutton and accompanied by Lois Mills at the piano and a CD “Go Rest High on that Mountain”. Lois Mills also provided prelude and postlude. Active pallbearers were Lonnie Whitley, Howard Johnson, Ricky Royal, James Sears, Kenny Adams and Don Merritt, Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Harper, George Bordeaux and Mike Doyle. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.
