The Satilla Regional Library System held its bookmark art contest winners’ ceremony on Saturday, October 10, at the Douglas-Coffee County Public Library. The contest was held from September 8 through October 2. Participants in Atkinson and Coffee Counties drew a bookmark with the theme “Why Reading Is Fun!” and submitted it to any Satilla Regional Library branch in person. The Wiregrass Artists’ Guild judged the bookmarks for the contest.
Mr. Mark Cole, Director, opened the ceremony by welcoming the winners and their families. He introduced himself and Miss Julie Macomber, Children’s and Young Adult Librarian. He thanked everyone for coming to the ceremony and for taking the time to participate. He told everyone that the winners’ bookmarks will be distributed throughout the Satilla Regional Library System. Mr. Cole proceeded to call up each winner and gave them a framed certificate of their winning bookmark, a $ 25 Wal-Mart gift card, and copies of their winning bookmarks.
Mr. Cole and Miss Macomber congratulated each winner for a great job on their bookmark. A photograph was taken of each winner with Mr. Cole and Miss holding up the framed certificate with the child’s winning bookmark.
There were seven total winners in this contest. The winners in Atkinson County were as follows: Quanshaela Vickers of Pearson Elementary School for the third and fourth grade category, Priscilla Sosa for the fifth and sixth grade category, and Hollis Pope of Atkinson County Middle School for the seventh to ninth grade category.
