South Georgia State College’s women’s soccer team has clinched a bye in the upcoming GCAA Tournament. The Lady Hawks (9-2, 8-2 GCAA) are scheduled to play in the tournament semifinals Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at Darton State College.

The tournament bye is the result of the best regular season finish for SGSC in school history. The Lady Hawks defeated Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 4-0 in the regular season finale. Shanelle Frederick scored two goals in the win, while Melissa Carpenter and Laura Parsley rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

Head coach Ben Horner is pleased with his team’s performance and is positive about the upcoming tournament.

“The girls have worked so hard throughout both the preseason and regular season to earn a bye into the tournament semifinals,” he said. “While a lot has been achieved so far, the girls are not satisfied. They want to play in the national tournament, and we are hoping to achieve that by winning our two tournament games.”

SGSC wishes the Lady Hawks good luck as they prepare for the GCAA Tournament.
