As fall and Halloween arrived during October, creepy crawly spiders landed on the top of Eastside Elementary Pre-K students.

The students have been focusing on some of the old nursery rhymes that many of their parents and grandparents learned as they grew up. Two of the students’ favorites were The Itsy Betsy Spider and Little Miss Muffet.

The children enjoyed participating in the finger play as well as acting out Little Miss Muffet with props and music. After the implementation of the language activities, the creepy crawly spiders moved into the mathematics domain. The children used spider manipulatives to review position words, such as under, above, between, on, beside, left and right.

Following the math and language activities, the children enjoyed working in the art domain to create a special spider headband to wear to lunch the day before Halloween. It was a scary sight with so many spiders in the Eastside Eagles Café!

Shown above are the students in Ms. Beverly Barbaree and Ms. Shavette Owens Pre-K class proudly displaying their Creepy Crawly Spider headbands.
