Two men currently serving on parole were jailed Monday on various charges after leading authorities on a foot and vehicle chase just north of Douglas.
Officials reported that a deputy with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for reckless driving on U.S. Highway 441 north of Douglas near the Green Tree Lakes community after the deputy observed the vehicle passing other motorists against a double yellow line. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver fled on foot. The deputy chased the fleeing driver about one quarter of a mile on foot before another vehicle stopped, picked up the fleeing driver, and sped away.
Law enforcement from several agencies, including the Douglas – Coffee HEAT Unit, Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit, and Broxton Police assisted the sheriff’s office in apprehending the fleeing driver and the other driver after they abandoned the second vehicle in the River Bend Estates community and fled on foot.
Officials identified Timothy Sanchez Blank (25) of Broxton as the driver who fled on foot and Rashaan Cortez Sims (25) of Douglas as the driver who picked Blank up as he was fleeing from the CCSO deputy. Both Blank and Sims are currently on parole for unrelated criminal offenses.
Officers discovered two and a half ounces of marijuana in the vehicle Blank abandoned and found another ounce of marijuana when they apprehended Blank and Sims.
Blank has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, fleeing / attempting to elude law enforcement officers, and reckless driving. Sims has been charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers and is facing additional drug charges.
