Dr. Bernie Evans was named Assistant Superintendent of Standards, Instruction, and Assessment during the November 19 monthly school board meeting. Dr. Evans most recently served as the Director of Instructional Support Programs.
Evans began her teaching career at Ambrose Elementary School. She later taught on the campus of West Coffee Middle School prior to her appointment in 1998 as principal of Ambrose Elementary.
During her tenure at Ambrose , Dr. Evans directed implementation of several outstanding programs, many of which directly related to improved test scores. Leading the school to become a National Learning Focused School of Merit for two consecutive years, Dr. Evans was named a High Performance Principal in 2006, 2007 and 2008 by Governor Sonny Perdue and Georgia School Superintendent Kathy Cox.
In addition to her role in the school system, Dr. Evans also serves on the board of directors for the Georgia Association of Curriculum and Instructional Supervisors. Because of her commitment and dedication to this organization she was named the recipient of the 2013 Jim Puckett Outstanding Educator Award.
Dr. Evans holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood and Middle Grades Education and a Specialist Degree in Middle Grades and Educational Leadership, both from Valdosta State University. She received her Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
