A Douglas man is behind bars today after police say he intentionally ran over a female victim with his car.
Police officials reported that officers responded to a report of aggravated assault at a residence on June Ave. late Sunday, Dec. 6, where they found the victim, identified as 24-year-old Ashlee Teel, laying in the yard. Officers also discovered a white Toyota Camry that had run into a ditch at the location. Teel and another witness stated the victim had been in the Camry with a male identified as Taurus Larenzo Young.
Teel and Young had been parked at the residence and, after a verbal dispute, Teel exited the car and was walking on N. June Ave. when Young struck her from behind, running Teel over. Young then struck another vehicle before running into the ditch. A witness to the incident observed Young exit the car and flee the scene on foot.
Teel was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center by EMS. Due to her injuries, she was transferred from Coffee Regional to Memorial Hospital in Savannah.
Officers located Taurus Larenzo Young at a residence on N. Madison Ave. early Monday morning, where he was found found hiding in a closet. Young was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Coffee County Jail. He currently faces one charge of aggravated assault.
