The week of November 16-20, the Coffee County School System celebrated American Education Week along with all public schools across the nation. Each day throughout the week, appreciation was given to faculty and staff, parents, and community members who continuously contribute to the educational success of the boys and girls within Coffee County Schools. Another very special group was recognized during the November school board meeting – the Coffee County Retired Teachers Association.
Kim Clayton, Director of Personnel and Public Relations, commended the retirees for their continued dedication to the field of education and the students.
“They may be retired from their full-time employment, but they continue to volunteer in various areas of the school system and community always working for children,” stated Clayton. “One of their most recent philanthropies is the Brown Bag Project. Several times throughout the school year, they gather together and stuff brown bags full of healthy snacks to give students as a supplement during holiday breaks so they will not go hungry. These individuals go above and beyond and we appreciate them for it.”
In recognition of the dedication and commitment the retired teachers’ organization gives to the district, community, and children, Dr. Morris Leis, Superintendent, presented Ms. Yvonne Clay, the current President of the Retired Teachers organization, the monthly Superintendents Award.
