Four Coffee Countians will split a $1 million prize won recently following the purchase of a winning Georgia Lottery ticket sold last week in Douglas.

Orville and Janice Carter of Douglas, Keven Johnson of Douglas, and Lorrinda Johnson of Broxton claimed the prize last Friday at the Georgia Lottery Headquarters in Atlanta. The winning instant game ticket was purchased at the Gate Food Store on Bowens Mill Rd. SE.

Profits from the Georgia Lottery are utilized to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and state’s Pre-K program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program since the lottery’s inception.
