Elijah Hursey, age 93, of Douglas, GA passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Hursey was born on September 2, 1922, in Douglas, GA to the late Norman Hursey and Carrie Bell Kelly Hursey. Mr. Hursey was a WWII Veteran of the US Army. He was a member of the American Legion and a Deacon of First Baptist Church. Mr. Hursey was a retired independent insurance agent.

Survivors include: his wife, Rebecca Geraldine Hursey of Douglas, GA; daughter, Marsha (Reggie) Gilliard of Douglas, GA; two grandchildren, Chad Gilliard and Kelly Gilliard both of Douglas, GA; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Pam Renee Hursey; six bothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2015 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
