2016 Spring Registration Underway for Douglas PD’S Citizen Police Academy

The Douglas Police Department is offering a Citizen Police Academy course that will begin Thursday, March 3 at the Douglas Police Department located at 225 W. Bryan Street. The course will last eight (8) weeks, and a light meal and refreshments are provided.

The course covers numerous areas and is designed to introduce and inform citizens of the role of law enforcement in the community and familiarize them with some of the applications of law. The class hours will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday night beginning March 3 through April 23.

The last day of the Academy will be an all-day event on Saturday, April 23. This day’s training will include firearms training at the Douglas Firearms Training Facility. Some of the topics covered are: Police Dept. Structure, Crime Scene Processing, Family Violence, Juvenile law, Gangs, Evidence Procedures, Patrol Operations, COP, Use of Force, Firearms Training, Internal Affairs, Complaint process, Disciplinary process, and participants will conduct a ride along with an officer during the course.

You do not have to be a resident of Douglas to attend this course. It is open to all citizens over 18 years of age. Registration forms are available from the Douglas Police Department or contact Commander Bart McCulloch at (912) 384-2222 Ext. 3616.
