One person was killed early Monday afternoon following a boating accident that occurred in a residential area of Coffee County just east of Douglas.

Officials with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office stated deputies and detectives responded to a report of an overturned boat at a pond off Hillsway Drive around 2:30 p.m. After responding to the scene, county fire and rescue personnel located the body of a male subject near the overturned boat.

Authorities say foul play is not suspected at this time, and the case is being turned over to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources due to the nature of the incident.

Officials have not released the name of the victim at this time.
