The South Georgia State College Lady Hawks (17-6, 3-1) hosted the Georgia Highlands Chargers in a conference matchup March 20 in Douglas. The Lady Hawks defeated the Chargers in game one by a score of 4-0 but fell behind in the seventh inning of game two to end with a 4-2 loss.

In the opening game, SGSC’s Makayla Clark went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run in the first inning and a single in the fifth. SGSC also posted a run in the second on a walk by Halie Pearce, plating Marcy Chancey.

Samantha Hays kept Georgia Highlands off the scoreboard for all seven innings she was on the rubber. She allowed four hits and struck out two in the shutout.

Game two was a tight game that was ultimately decided in the seventh inning as SGSC fell to Georgia Highlands. This was the Lady Hawks’ first loss in fifteen games.

Amy Latner racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Lady Hawks. She singled in the second inning and homered in the fifth inning. Whitney Oliver couldn’t get it done on the rubber for SGSC, taking a loss. She lasted just 3 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.

The top of the third saw Georgia Highlands take an early lead, 1-0. Georgia Highlands got things going and never surrendered the lead.

Coach Nicki Levering and the SGSC Lady Hawks also hosted Recreation Day March 20 for the little league softball players in Coffee County. Between the games, the Lady Hawks signed softballs for the little league players and posed for pictures with them.
