Huey Fussell, age 80, of Ambrose, GA passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016, at his residence following a brief illness. He was known for his devotion to his family, his community of Ambrose and his firm belief in God.

Huey was born to the late Youngie Fussell and Cola Whitley, a farmer and homemaker respectively, in Ambrose, GA on November 13, 1935. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Union Primitive Baptist Church in Ambrose. Huey grew up helping his father farm land in Ambrose and Douglas, GA. His father instilled in him a love of the land, teaching him how to grow tobacco, corn, cotton and peanuts. Huey took great pride in his crops, especially the golden leaves of tobacco he harvested and cured each summer. He was most happy while outside and loved to hunt, fish, and grow vegetables for his family and friends in the Ambrose community. He loved all kinds of animals, and any stray animal that wandered into his yard became one of the luckiest animals on the planet.

Huey was known to his hunting friends as Wallygator and spent many days farming and many nights with his hunting dogs and friends in the woods of South Georgia. He knew the names of every creek, river or watering hole throughout South Georgia. To know Huey was to love him. He is most remembered by his friends and family for his great sense of humor, constant smile and cheerful greeting. He loved to tell stories of his life growing up as a child of the south, often mischievous tales involving how he tried to avoid school or the trouble he got into when he did go to school.

Huey was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Willie Grace Harper of Ocilla, GA, on June 5, 1955, in Douglas, GA. He helped raise his two children, instilling in them a great sense of humor as well as a love of God and strong work ethic.

Huey is survived by his wife, Willie Grace; his son, Hue (Vicki) Fussell of Ambrose, GA; his daughter, Mari Angela Fussell of Douglas, GA; his grandchildren, Andrea (Lee) Taylor, Kathy (Jason) Anderson, Chance (Cheyenne) Fussell and Anna Grace (Eddie) Lott; his brother, Troy (Juanelle) Fussell; his sisters, Margie Boggan, Mary Lou (Cecil) Carver; 9 great-grandchildren and a host of special family friends, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Louise Vickers, and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Mt. Union Primitive Baptist Church in Ambrose, GA.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Union Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Walt DeLoach and Reverend George Carroll Paulk officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Philip Smith offering the prayer.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
