A softball conference doubleheader March 30 turned out to be two hard fought battles between the South Georgia State Lady Hawks (21-6, 5-1) and the East Georgia State Lady Bobcats. The first game in the series ended with a 6-5 win by SGSC after eleven innings of play. Game two was another long game of eight innings with the Lady Hawks coming out on top by a score of 2-1.

Whitney Oliver pulled double duty in game one, leading SGSC on both offense and defense. Oliver pitched eight innings and allowed one earned run on five hits. She racked up two RBIs on four hits as she singled in the second, fifth, ninth, and eleventh innings.

The top of the third saw East Georgia take an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Hawks put up a run of their own in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Makayla Clark. For the remainder of the game, SGSC would answer any runs scored by East Georgia. The Lady Hawks scored on a sacrifice fly by Chelsea Lyons and on one of the singles by Oliver. Another of SGSC’s players scored on an error, and Oliver’s walk-off single boosted the Lady Hawks to the win.

In game two, Samantha Hays worked out of six tough situations for the Lady Hawks as she pitched three innings and allowed no earned runs on no hits. Kimberly Gentry recorded the win for SGSC. She allowed one run over five innings, struck out two, walked one, and gave up five hits.

Megan Farmer helped offensively by going 1-for-2 and also helped secure the win with a sacrifice fly after a scoreless tie in the fifth inning.
