Corrections Corporations of America’s (CCA) Coffee Correctional Facility in Nicholls will break ground this week for its new Inmate Vocational Training Center. The building will house new vocational training programs in welding and diesel maintenance offered in partnership with the Georgia Department of Corrections and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.

The groundbreaking event complements National Reentry Week (April 24-30), a week designated by the U.S. Department of Justice to highlight the importance of preparing inmates for release and reducing recidivism.

Reentry is a core commitment for both CCA and the GDC, and research shows that inmates who receive education while incarcerated are 43% less likely to return to prison.

In addition to the new programs, Coffee Correctional Facility already provides training in masonry, carpentry, horticulture, office technology, and CDL training, as well as high school equivalency education and life skills programs.

Also in Georgia, CCA’s Wheeler Correctional Facility in Alamo is in the process of constructing its own Vocational Training Center. The goal of both facilities is to provide education and training that will encourage successful reentry and thereby build stronger, safer communities. Construction of both buildings is scheduled to be completed in December 2016.

Coffee Correctional Facility is a 3,032 bed, medium security facility in Nicholls, Ga. The facility opened in 1998 and is owned and operated by Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) on behalf of the Georgia Department of Corrections.
