Virgil Hulon Barksdale, 90 of Broussard, LA passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 in Lafayette, LA.

Mr. Barksdale was born on August 9, 1925 in Fort Valley, GA to the late Virgil and Elizabeth Smith Barksdale. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having proudly served our country during World War II, and worked for the Signal Thread Company for over 40 years. Mr. Barksdale enjoyed traveling, but most of all spending time with his family, and friends.

Survivors include his daughters, Lane Barksdale Walker and husband Dr. James Walker of Broussard, LA and Beth Barksdale Norris of Ocala, FL; brother, John F. Barksdale and wife JoAnn of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Bill Tomlin, Drew Tomlin, Meredith Walker Allain and husband David, Whitney Walker, and Virginia Walker; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Griffin Barksdale formerly of Douglas; sister, Margaret Barksdale Banks; and an infant daughter.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 9:00 a.m to 10:30 a.m at Sims Funeral Home and funeral services to be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday 9, 2016 at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
