Luther William Hester, age 94, of Douglas passed away Friday evening May 20, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Hester was born in Coffee County on July 1, 1921 to the late John Zachary Hester and the late Ada Cliett Hester.

Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Hester Wright and her husband Ronald “Ronnie” Eugene Wright of Douglas, a sister, Ida Mae Hester Harbin of Jacksonville, Florida, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Graham Hester, a brother, John Dureau Hester, a sister, Mary Hester Prescott and a nephew, Wayne Hester.

He was a retired railroad employee, a veteran of World War II, an ordained deacon, and a member of Northside Baptist Church but had more recently attended St. Mark United Methodist Church where his daughter is the musician.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at St. Mark United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Calhoun officiating.

Interment will follow at Reedy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 501 E Walker St., Douglas, GA. OR Cemetery Fund, Reedy Branch Baptist Church, P. O. Box 728, Broxton, Ga. 31519.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
